In the current economy and the high unemployment rate, the immigration policy is under hot debate. Inevitably, there are comments to connect the high unemployment rate with immigrants in the Untied States.
The Immigration published a report on November 19, 2009 proving that it is a misconception to blame the high unemployment rate to immigrants.
- Statistic shows that there is no direct connection between high unemployment rate and immigration because the highest unemployment areas are not the areas with highest number of immigrants.
- Statistic shows that recent immigrants are not the reason for high unemployment among the minorities.
- Statistic shows that the different levels of education between immigrants and native workers make it hard for immigrants and native workers to exchange their jobs, i.e., even if there are no immigrants in the United States, native workers do not necessarily fill in those jobs.
- Among workers without a higher degree, native workers who are unemployed and new immigrants who are employed reside in different locations in the country and have different occupations and work experience. This shows that the unemployment of native workers does not derive from new immigrant workers.
The report offers many statistic numbers to prove that immigrants are not the reason to cause employment issues in the United States. Other than the factual statistical numbers, immigrants actually bring in top quality workers and investment capitals in this country, both make great contributions to this country. Foreign students pay tuition to study at U.S. universities. Foreign investors make investments in the United States. Top foreign science and engineering students conduct advance research to enhance the competitiveness of the United States. Ultimately, the hidden incredible value of new immigrants to this country is that it reflects the world’s confidence and vote for the Unites States. What happens if nobody wants to immigrate to the United States? What does it mean to this country? Therefore the policy of immigration can tremendously affect the status, economy and position of the and must be carefully considered by the U.S. government.
